As we age, we lose volume and elasticity in the skin around our mouths.
This can be exacerbated by smoking. However it is not always isolated to those who smoke. Our mouths are actively moving with facial expressions when we talk and eat. Overtime we can develop deeper set lines that can even be there when we are not moving.
Sometimes you can notice this too in the lips which can over time become thinner and less hydrated. It is estimated that we lose 50% of lip volume by the age of 50.
When applying lipstick some women notice that their lipstick bleeds into the surrounding border of the mouth. Also known as vertical lipstick lines or barcode lines.
This problem area can be treated with a combination of botulinum toxin (Botox, Bocouture) to relax the muscles causing the lines, and with Dermal fillers to rejuvenate and fill the lines.
This also works well with lip fillers for a total mouth rejuvenation.
How is it done? (Dermal Fillers)
After some topical anaesthetic cream is applied, we inject a medium density dermal filler around the upper lip and mouth before moulding and shaping to create a natural looking refreshed look.
